Spend some time alone
70Time Alone
Spending time with my own thoughts and simply relaxing my mind, body and soul keeps me balanced. I believe the greatest gift we can give ourselves is some time to sit quietly and just be.
I grew up in a large close family. As a child we lived in a two family home with my grandmother and aunt on the second floor, and my three siblings, two parents and myself on the first floor. Our house was small with only one bathroom, so I had to learn patience at an early age. I had to learn to share any and everything. I could never leave anything in the fridge for a later time because my two brothers would surely come along and devour whatever goodies I was saving. I learned the art of compromise before I could spell it and noise was as normal to me as brushing my teeth and flossing twice a day.
To put it plain and simple, I was rarely alone to think and enjoy myself. As I got older, I was still thrust into a life where lots of people were in my personal (not really that personal) space. In college there were always people behaving as though there was an never ending party, and then came the husband and two kids. The only real time alone I spent was in the bathroom, and even then with kids it was not easy to escape to the bathroom alone.
I feel as though one of the perks of getting married young and having my kids in my twenties is that now I am finally free to spend time all by myself (when my partner is out) and I am thrilled!! I can sleep in when I want, take long weekends and do whatever my heart desires and my favorite all time being alone thing is to simply stay home, to read a book, write and nest with my things.
On a typical day alone, I sleep a bit longer and get up and make a personal pot of coffee and watch my favorite AM news program "Good Morning America" and just lounge in my big new comfortable bed. I may doze back to sleep and wake up a second time. I enjoy cleaning and freshening up around the apartment and sitting in my sun room listening to music and reading my favorite magazines or going for a long walk. Sometimes I just sit quietly and watch the world go by on our street not thinking about anything.
The point is, I love being with myself and I enjoy my own company. I love the sound of my own breathing and the quiet thoughts swirling around inside my head. I feel blessed to just be me all by myself!!
Spending time alone as often as possible ROCKS!!! Everyone should try it at least once a month no matter what else is going on. The time alone will help you get back in touch with yourself and who is more important than you are?

Time alone, YES! My youngest is leaving for college soon. I cannot wait to be alone. I am taking the phone off the hook, turning off cell phone, stopping the mail, and everything else that grabs my attention. I can't wait for time alone!!!!!
