How do you have fun?

I've had an incredible summer this year. I've had so much fun doing very little and I believe that is the key...I've done small, yet relaxing and fulfilling things since Memorial weekend, and now Labor weekend is here.

To start off the summer the east coast NJ/NY/CT suffered through a 4 day 95 degrees with 100% humidity heatwave. That was my first taste of summer. My best friend and I went to the beach and I experienced the worst sunburn ever!! I also went swimming in 54 degree water and almost past out the same day I got my sunburn!! I'm laughing at myself now because it's so dam stupid of me and funny! I've grown as a person because I can do stupid things now and laugh at myself! Yahoo I've discovered that I am a fallible human being!!

I've also enjoyed some good summer foods. My favorite is Jersey corn, which is so tender and good, and fresh garden tomatoes from my dad's garden. I also indulge in strawberries and watermelon. Did I mention BBQ's with steak and ribs...oh my goodness my mouth is watering just thinking about all the good food I ate this summer!

What other things have I done this summer? I loved the Olympics this summer. It was the first time ever that I watched it to the point I was addicted and scheduled my nights around it so I could be home for certain events. I loved the swimming, the gymnastics, beach volley ball, basketball, tennis, just everything about it was so entertaining. I was late getting up every morning, but I didn;t care. I had to have my fix of Olympic coverage everyday. The last night I almost cried because I didn't want it to end. I think Michael Phelps is awesome and I can't wait for London to see what he will do there.

Did I mention all the free concerts in beautiful Central Park. NYC has everything to do in the summer! I escaped and went up to the country one weekend and fell in love with a dog named "Lizzie", I saw some good old movies while I lounged on the couch. I took long walks, had some nice relaxing naps, drank Martini's on a Saturday afternoon with my sisters, walked through Central Park to sit and write, heard a free jazz concert at Lincoln Center under the stars one evening after work, and took a cruise around the Hudson River.

The finale to my summertime past-time will be this weekend when I attend a town fair in my home town where I was born. I'll ride the Ferris wheel, play some games, listen to some music, eat a delicious funnel cake, some cotton candy, and end the evening watching fireworks! Awesome fun indeed. I LOVE MY SUMMER 08'!!

It's been so wonderful this summer and I dread that it's about to end. I'm wondering is there anyone out there that can tell me what great pasttimes you had this summer and help me live vicariously through you! Please let me know.

Have a great Labor day holiday weekend!! Peace & Love always...

I can relate to your summer time images; i.e., sun, heat, sand, water, music, fun. Some day you might want to check out our Oregon coast. This is my most favorite place in the world. I write about it a lot. Feel free to stay in touch. Sincerely: Gary Eby, author and therapist.
